The Berryville varsity girl soccer team’s 4A state championship run came up short Saturday in Batesville.  The Lady Bobcats cruised to the final four of the 4A state soccer tournament with a 9-1 victory over ESTEM on Thursday and a 6-0 victory over  Batesville Southside on Friday and a win Saturday over Robinson would have sent Berryville to the title game.  The Berryville/Robinson semi final game was the most exciting game of the tournament as both teams played extremely hard and found themselves tied at two at the end of regulation.  The teams were still tied after two ten minute sudden death overtime periods and a shoot out was required to determine the winner.  Each team selected five players to shoot penalty kicks and Robinson edged the Lady Bobcats 2 to 1 to take the victory.  Berryville girls soccer coach Aaron Hall told his players and their parents after the game that he was very proud of the way these girls have played all year and their never give up attitude in the semi final game showed great character representing Berryville schools.  Lady Bobcat scoring against Robinson included; Natalia Hernandez and Maryn Jones, one goal apiece, and Mary Kennedy Jackson one overtime PK.  Berryville Lady Bobcats end the season with an 11-2 record and a final four in the 4A state soccer tournament.  Congratulations on a great season!

Our local high school soccer teams have had outstanding soccer seasons so far but the season starts over tomorrow in the first round of the 4A state soccer tournament hosted by Batesville high school at the Batesville soccer complex.  The 8-3 Berryville varsity boy’s soccer team played their way into the state tournament by winning their last four games of the season.  The three seed Bobcats will play at 10am Thursday morning against Warren, a win would advance Berryville to a second round game against the winner of the CAC/Crowley’s Ridge Academy game which will be played at 2PM Friday.  The Berryville varsity girls begin state play with a lot of momentum after going undefeated in conference play.  The 8-0 Lady Bobcats have a number one seed and will play ESTEM Thursday morning at 10am; a win would advance Berryville to a second round game against the winner of Southside/Baptist Prep which will be played Friday at noon.  The Green Forest varsity boy’s soccer team begins tournament play with only one conference loss on the season and received the two seed.  The 10-1 Tigers will play Episcopel at2pm Thursday afternoon; a win would advance them to a second round game against the winner of the Mena/St. Joseph game to be played Friday at 10am.  The Green Forest game is scheduled early on Friday to accommodate a return trip for the Tiger seniors to be honored at graduation Friday evening. Good luck to our Tigers, Bobcats, and Lady Bobcats at the 4A state soccer tournament in Batesville Arkansas.

The Berryville varsity boys soccer team traveled to Subiaco Academy on Friday needing a win to secure third place in the conference and they did just that, winning 3-2.  The Bobcats finished conference with a 6-3 record and will advance to the state tournament as the three seed.

The Berryville Lady Bobcat senior high basketball team has been in tournament mode for the last two weeks and preparing for one opponent at a time has been the secret to their success as they have run the tables on their opponents in the 1-4A district tournament and the 4A north regional tournament.  Two down and one to go as the 4A state tournament begins Thursday at 7PM for the Lady Bobcats as they will face the winner of Dumas and Central Arkansas Christian.  Berryville coaches are preparing for either team, but Central Arkansas Christian has been a top ranked team all season long thanks to an outstanding 5 foot 11 inch junior shooting guard Christyn Williams.  Williams is heavily recruited by top colleges in the nation and averages over 26 points and 9 rebounds per game.  The CAC standout was sidelined with a shoulder injury in a regional semi final loss and is expected to be back for the state tournament.  Berryville lost in the state semifinals last year to CAC 45-31 and the Lady Bobcats are planning a strategy that includes slowing down the all star player.  Dumas will play CAC on Wednesday at 4PM and the Berryville Lady Bobcats are leaving for the state tournament Wednesday at 9AM in order to scout the game Wednesday afternoon.  The public is encouraged to send the Lady Bobcats off in a big way Wednesday morning, good luck to our Berryville Lady Bobcats! If you can’t make the trip to Nashville be sure to tune into KTHS 107.1FM Thursday evening at approximately 6:30 for pregame and 7PM tipoff.

Expectations for the Berryville Lady Bobcat basketball team are pretty high this year since they made a 4A state final four appearance last season, but tonight Berryville will face a team in Bobcat arena that has won four consecutive Class 2 Missouri state championships where high expectations are a way of life.  Crane Lady Pirate basketball dynasty is one of the greatest in Missouri history in that they have gone 123-7 with four state championships in four seasons.  This may be a rebuilding year for Crane but the Bobcats can expect a very good, very fundamental, and well coached basketball team.  Crane basketball coach Jeremy Mullins has said the team will feature a lot of new faces but that they expect tough defense as the trademark of the Lady Pirates.  The Berryville Lady Bobcats may be young but they have plenty of experience to offset a team of this caliber.  Berryville opened the season last week against Lincoln and cruised to the victory led by point guard Baylee Smith and post player Hannah Morrell.  Berryville can expect solid play from returning players Jeanessa Smith, Melody Smith, Aspen Smith, and Kelsey Hopper.
